Projects this Week

An elastic waist voile skirt with cotton lining for Anna Claire.

I also made a pillow case out of cute dinosaur fabrics for Zachary but I forgot to take a picture of it.

A zippered pouch. I made this pouch in my intermediate sewing class and it seemed so complicated. We made it with an invisible zipper in class but I made this one with a regular zipper. It's a lot of steps but not as complicated as I remember. Turned our really cute! I think it would be more versatile if it were larger though.

Pj pants for the girls. Madeleine chose this fabric a couple months ago specifically for this project. First time I worked with a knit fabric and it made me very glad I had my serger! I made a pair for Maren in a pretty flannel but I didn't realize how little this fabric gives. They fit well but she wasn't able to bend her knees! Project fail.

Sick

This week we've all been touched by one bug or another. Madeleine and Maren had a tummy bug and Bruce and I got colds. Mads missed four days of school; three because of the bug and one because her class was going to see Peter Pan at the Center for Puppetry Arts. The last field trip there left her with nightmares so she happily played hookey that day. We spent most of the week cooped up in the house trying not to go stir-crazy.
We did a lot of lying on the couch this week.
Madeleine and Bruce did get out on Saturday morning to go strawberry picking at Southern Belle Farms in McDonough. They had a great time picking beautiful, ripe strawberries and even made an impromptu stop at the Geranium Festival in downtown McDonough. Mads was so tired Saturday evening she told me she was looking forward to going to bed.

Madeleine with the loot: a gallon bucket of hand-picked strawberries and a unicorn stuffed animal from the festival.
I ended our already off week by getting in a car accident Saturday evening. Another driver ran a red light and crashed into me while I was driving Bruce's car, leaving it inoperable. No injuries though so that's good.

Schoolhouse Tunic

The first piece of clothing I've ever made for myself. I started it yesterday (Mother's Day). Bruce watched the girls so I could spend most of the morning and afternoon sewing. I finished it today while Maren napped. So pleased with how it turned out!

Madeleine likes to call herself my "sewing assistant". I love that she wants to be with me while I sew.  She helps me by putting pins back in the pin cushion and throwing away scraps. Last week she asked how to use the sewing machine. I was hesitant at first but found it too hard to deny her enthusiasm. Sure enough, she followed every step perfectly. She likes to try out different stitches and sewing seams on scrap fabric. She's made skirts for her stuffed animals Fulu and Rainba. She can't reach the pedal while sitting so she stands. :) She's fighting a tummy bug today but, of course, was in good spirits and not too tired to play.
